Change the default password policy:

Login SSH to ESXi host and edit:

#~ vi /etc/pam.d/passwd

Comment out:
#password   requisite    /lib/security/$ISA/pam_passwdqc.so retry=3 min=disabled,disabled,disabled
password   sufficient   /lib/security/$ISA/pam_unix.so use_authtok nullok shadow sha512
#password   required     /lib/security/$ISA/pam_deny.so

And delete “use_authtok

What you just did was enabling the option to change the password to anything you like.

Add persistent static route:

# vi /etc/sysconfig/network/ifroute-eth0

For every route add a line with the following format:

{TargetNetwork} {GatewayAddress} {Netmask} {Interface}

i.e.:

10.0.0.0  10.0.0.254 255.255.255.0 eth0

You need to restart the system for the route to be added, but you can add the route using the command line enabling the use of the route for the current session, without rebooting:

# route add -net {TargetNetwork} netmask {NetmaskAddress} gw {GatewayAddress} dev {interface}

i.e.:
route add -net 10.0.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 10.0.0.254 dev eth0
