Here is just a couple of “mpc” commands you can use to test installations and sound:

Current state of MPD:

more /var/lib/mpd/state

Saving current state as a playlist:

mpc save PLAYLIST

Set Volume:

mpc volume 50

List playlists:

mpc ls

Load playlist

mpc load PLAYLIST

Start playback mpc:

mpc play

Delete item from queued (See Current state of MPD) list:

mpc del #

You can also create a link to a library not within /var/lib/mpd/: (Example music)

ln -s /home/pi/Music/ /var/lib/mpd/music

Update your MPD Library:

mpc update
