Finally WORKING!!!

After reading quite a bit I decided this should run on wheezy, so to get the installation working 100% I did the following:

  • Created a wheeze installation, with all the startups etc… (remember you can restart it with “raspi-conf”)
  • Overclocked to MEDIUM
  • Set to connect wireless with:
  • wpa_passphrase “<SSID>” <PASSPHRASE> >> /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

and rebooted

  • Then ran: (added “export http_proxy=http://”<ip:port>” in a proxied environment)

wget http://sheasilverman.com/rpi/raspbian/debs/advancemame-raspberrypi_1-1_armhf.deb

sudo dpkg -i advancemame-raspberrypi_1-1_armhf.deb

advmame

  • Then changed the config file ~/.advance/advmame.rc and added:

device_video_clock 5 – 50 / 15.62 / 50 ; 5 – 50 / 15.73 / 60

  • then put a rom into the ~/advance/share/rom/ directory and ran
  • advmame <romname>

OK, so I have got all these ROMS, how do I manage them?

  1. Enable root access (sudo passwd root)
  2. Log in as root
  3. tar -xvf advancemenu-2.6.tar
  4. cd advancemenu-2.6
  5. (export proxy if you are proxied)
  6. apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev
  7. apt-get install gcc-4.7
  8. export CC=gcc-4.7
  9. export GCC=g++-4.7
  10. ./configure
  11. vi Makefile (delete “-march=native” from the CFLAGS line)
  12. make
  13. make install

You can then just run your advmenu and everything should work…

This concludes the Pi MAME exercise.
